Natural habitats are blackwater streams and pools with pH values between 4.00 and 7.00 and low hardness.
We keep them in water between pH 6.5 and 7.00 with a hardness between 75ppm and 125 ppm.
They are not very tolerant of fluctuations in water chemistry.
As the maximum size for Chili rasbora is less than an inch and the fish are very peaceful, they should be housed with similarly sized peaceful fish
